Ollie is a 23 year old singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger and producer based in Manchester. He met his band mates whilst studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and formed The Ollie West Band, before expanding the line-up against all advice and creating The Wildflowers, a 14 piece ensemble that completed the vision Ollie had for his music. Having grown up surrounded by the music of Billy Joel, Bruce Hornsby and The Beatles, Ollie’s music draws influence from the classic songwriting greats as well as taking inspiration from classical, folk and americana, creating a unique and fresh sound with their 14 piece orchestral line-up.

On Nov 6th, 2020 Ollie West & The Wildflowers will release their first single in over a year and a half, “Shelf Life”. Written by Ollie in a Tesco delivery van and recorded in the coronavirus UK lockdown, “Shelf Life” talks in part about Ollie’s personal struggles with anxiety, whilst embracing the idea of staying at home and surrounding yourself with the things and people that matter to you the most; a sentiment everyone can relate to in this time.

The single follows the release of their debut album “Time Stood Still” in 2019, which featured the critically acclaimed singles “The Ballad of Richard and Sophie” and “Home”, the latter of which gained national radio play and recognition by Simon Mayo on Scala Radio, and the ensemble subsequently became Scala Radio’s young artist of the week. Following a special performance at St Pancras Church in London in November 2019, Ollie decided to permanently expand the line-up to a stellar group of 14 musicians fresh out of the RNCM and subsequently “The Wildflowers” were born.

Recording sessions and release schedules for a new album were almost completed, but halted by the sudden arrival of the coronavirus restrictions, and the band ended up isolated across the country with no way of rehearsing or continuing the recording process. This new single, then, marks the end of a period of forced silence for Ollie West & The Wildflowers and puts them back on the map with a bang; “Shelf Life” is sure to lift your spirits and have you singing along by the end. Further releases will follow in 2021.
